This is a page for notes on maintenance and comments on the changes done to the bike.
The bike is a 2003 BMW GS Dakar purchased at the beginning of 2004
It has heated grips and Brembo abs brakes.
The original bodywork was the blue and white stripped scheme that I hated. So I bought a used set of black GS panels to replace the original body panels.
Modifications
TT change guard is a piece of crap that looks cool but provides little real protection. The TT guard was destroyed by a loose chain and now there is no chain guard, but I have the original one in storage
Fastway footpegs are nicely and simply built, making standing on the pegs a pleasure. I love these footpegs.
TT oil cap was a disaster. It uses a odd numbered hex screw that supposedly makes access to the oil tank more secure. I had a groove carved out so I can use a coin or screwdriver to remove the cap.
Replaced headlight with TT dual lights (non xenon). I also had a shield but just lost it on the road. I have the original headlight in storage.
Forks are covered by some mountain bike fork guards made of soft material.
Custom bottom engine guard. I forget the name of the company but he is in Seattle. This was expensive but the best investment I made. It is cracked on the bottom on the back end and was modified a little to allow room for my motorcross boots to work the rear brake.

The original horn was removed and there are now two horns running through a relay. The are just some regular horns I bought in S America.
Wunderlink windshield broke in a drop, now a BMW tinted screeen with stickers. I have the original screen in storage.
The original handlebars bent in my Baja crash. I replaced them with risers and TT bars. I do not remember all the numbers right now. However, the handlebar broke at the left end in a drop in a gas station. It broke on the inside and may be difficult/impossible to fix without losing the heated grips.
The exhaust is stock.
The shock was rebuilt at around 50k
