I’m back on the road. It feels odd. I think I got soft during my rest in San Diego. I especially miss the daylight of traveling in Canada and Alaska during the summer. Now, I really have to get up early to make sure I find a place for the night before it gets dark. Also, riding on roads with no road shoulder with potential drunk truck drivers coming at you not fun. Drunk driving is basically accepted here as far as I can tell.
My last meal before the continuing my trip.

Mama Espinosa’s was the first institutions for tourists in Baja. I had an excellent lunch here. Thanks to DTop for alerting me to this place.

My second night I stopped in Catavina at dusk only to find that the Catavina Hotel Pinta charged 88 USD for a single. I found a motel down a dirt road, but there was no heat or hot water and it got very cold at that altitude of over 2,000 feet above sea level.

Continuing south on 1 I stopped at this well-known tamale shack in Jesus Maria just north of Guerro Negro. If you are nice you may get a hug and kiss like I did from the owner. Again, thanks to DTop for this one.
It was then on to San Ignacio where I stayed at Rice and Beans. Although there were cheaper alternatives in the centro the food here was excellent and I was given Room 1 for $40. I could only imagine the parties that took place in the room given there were two huge beds and it is a mainstay for the Baja racers.
It was then one more push southeast through the desert until Mulege where I intended to spend the night. However, it was kind of dead, probably because it was the off-season. So, I pressed on to Loreto where I figure Jeff would be by now.

In Loreto I found a $20 room with a nice spot for my bike.
Indeed that night I got an email from Jeff that he was in town.

Loreto sunrise.
I got to spend one night in the bungalo where Jeff was staying but then had to leave before his family arrive. The nerve!!! ![]()
So it was back on the 1 through the desert again south to La Paz.

In La Paz I camped on the beach a couple of days until I worked out my plans for finding a BMW dealer to work on my clutch problem. I couldn’t stay more than two nights because of the strong winds pounding the coast.
Driving into town I met this German rider doing a Central America tour.
